Get to know Dresden, with time to look closely
You may recognise these places from photographs. Standing on the Neumarkt, with the dome of the Frauenkirche above you and city life around you, is another experience altogether. From here, we explore Dresden’s historic centre together.
I’ll introduce the former royal city, its art and architecture, and its destruction and rebuilding. We’ll also look beyond the famous buildings. A detail on a façade or a passage away from the main route can tell a story of its own.
A good beginning for your Dresden visit
This walk suits a first visit, or a return visit with fresh eyes. Come as a couple, family, group of friends or your own private group. Other visitors won’t be added to your tour.
The stops below are a suggested route. We meet on Neumarkt at the Martin Luther monument. The tour lasts two hours; we adapt the order and breaks to suit your group. Let me know whether architecture, Saxon history or everyday city life interests you most.
Planning your walk
The tour mainly takes place outdoors in public streets and squares. Interior visits, museum admission and specialist tours inside individual buildings are not automatically included. Tell me about any wishes in advance so we can check opening times and additional costs.
Comfortable shoes are a good idea. If anyone in your group has limited mobility, we’ll discuss a suitable route with shorter distances and breaks.
What we'll discover
- Neumarkt and the Frauenkirche
- Fürstenzug and Stallhof
- Royal Palace and Zwinger
- Theaterplatz and Semper Opera
- Brühl’s Terrace
